Development

Is your management team maximizing their performance? Are they and the people that work for and with them fully engaged in the success of your business?

In 2000 the Gallup Organization first reported the proportion of engaged, not-engaged and actively not engaged workers in the U.S. workforce. The results of the Gallup surveys have been updated quarterly ever sense. The latest figures show that, only 30% of the U.S. workforce consists of engaged employees, over half, 54%, are not engaged and 16% are actively not engaged.

Using the most conservative scenarios, Gallup has calculated that the cost to the U.S. economy of actively disengaged employees is in the range of $254 to $363 billion annually. More specifically the lost productivity cost of an actively disengaged employee represents $3,400 per $10,000 of salary. For an employee who earns $30,000, the cost is $10,200; if the salary is $50,000, the cost is $17,000 and so on. At the high salary level, the savings generated just through achieving a zero disengagement condition would be more significant than the savings generated by all other forms of cost reduction efforts.

Statistics published by The Corporate Leadership Council of the Corporate Executive Board show that the cost of turnover for front line employees is equal to 0.41 times salary; that of professional associates is 1.77 times salary and that of managers is 2.44 times salary.

The above statistics are frightening. The impact of your leadership team on their subordinates and the subsequent impact on your customers will determine your bottom line and perhaps your survival.
